Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0?

The term Web 2.0 was coined by Tim O'Reilly of O'Reilly Media in 2004. In the last 4 years, web 2.0 has been surrounded by a great deal of hype and marketing spin, but the term does describe a very real shift in the use of the internet as a result of advances in Technology, Economic drivers and the social repercussions of Social Media.

Put simply, the Internet moved into a very clearly defined second stage. The YouTube video on this page does a great job explaining the concept.

Typically Web 2.0 applications have the Richness of a GUI Application with the Reach of a web application.

Why is Web 2.0 important to my business?

Web 2.0 is not just hype, it is real and it is being driven by your customers, right now. The result of this is that customers are expecting more of your business and your online presence.

Broadband Internet access is now common place in most homes, with wireless hotspots accessible in public places. More mobile phones have internet connectivity than ever before, with the result being that your customers are constantly connected to the internet. Your business is now 24/7, because your website is.

Your customers are not just connected, they're engaged, creating content on the Internet by submitting reviews, blogging, chatting and exchanging views on Social Networking sites.

Can you afford to compromise with your online presence?
